Interested Parties & Legal Requirements

It is important to document the needs and expectations of interested parties and to identify the legal requirements and contractual obligations to which they may be subject, all of which can have a significant impact on your organization. This requirement is highlighted in ISO 27001 and 27701 and may apply to other frameworks too.

In addition, these requirements serve as a framework for an organization to establish an effective governance framework tailored to its needs. They are essential for protecting information assets, meeting legal obligations and ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations and standards.

When it comes to Interested Parties, they are individuals or entities with a legitimate interest in the organization and its information security, privacy, and quality practices, including customers, employees, business partners, shareholders, regulators, competitors, and suppliers.

The legal requirements applicable to interested parties extend across national, regional, and international jurisdictions, including European law. These requirements cover diverse areas such as data protection (e.g., GDPR), cybersecurity, employment law, financial regulations, contractual obligations, and any other relevant laws and regulations governing the organization’s operations.

To streamline the process, the ‘Interested Parties and Legal Requirements Section’ helps maintain focus and organization. The details captured here are essential for finalizing the Organization & Context, ensuring alignment with the business environment, services, and compliance requirements.

Step 1: List All Stakeholders

Start by identifying both external and internal stakeholders involved in your business operations. This includes customers, suppliers, partners, employees, and any other entities that play a role in delivering your products or services.
