Vendor Assessment

Vendor assessments are evaluations conducted by potential or existing customers. These assessments can range from simple self-assessment forms and due diligence reviews to penetration tests on your applications. They are often performed by third-party auditors to validate the security and operational integrity of your solutions.

It is essential to compile all vendor assessments in a centralized repository. Doing so allows you to efficiently reuse the provided information, streamline compliance processes, and improve overall operational effectiveness.

When a customer completes an assessment, it is important to record the results in ‘the Vendor Assessment Section’, along with the owner responsible and a detailed description.

In some cases, a customer may conduct a penetration test (PEN test) on your behalf, enhancing your security posture and potentially replacing certain components of your disaster recovery plan (DRP) test. The results can then be integrated into your overall security strategy.

Regardless of whether the assessment includes penetration testing or a standard due diligence evaluation, it is imperative to take these assessments seriously. Any resulting improvements or changes should be documented in the ‘Improvements Section’, clearly labeled as Vendor Assessment.

If specific recommendations require scheduled and recurring actions—such as more frequent backup processes or access reviews—you may assign a dedicated Operational Planning and Control (OPC) to manage these tasks.
